AGUAJITO OAKS, Monterey — October 29, 2026. Five segments of Littlefield Road received markedly different pavement-condition scores in the City of Monterey’s publicly available street database. The city recorded scores ranging from 71 to 91 out of 100 for sections of Littlefield Road, while describing the last surface treatment for each as a slurry seal dated July 24, 2018.

The scores are historical: they appeared in the city’s January 27, 2025 Measure P and S Oversight Committee meeting packet, based on a street database dated earlier that month. They are not proof of pavement conditions or repair status on October 29, 2026.

Five street segments, five different ratings

The city’s segment-by-segment listing identifies:

  • Littlefield Road, Abinante Way to a Littlefield Road junction: pavement-condition index (PCI) 71.
  • Littlefield Road, south Hooper Lane to north Hooper Lane: PCI 91.
  • Littlefield Road, south Hooper Lane to a Littlefield Road junction: PCI 89.
  • Littlefield Road, a Littlefield Road junction to Hooper Lane: PCI 88.
  • Littlefield Road, Sylvan Road to Abinante Way: PCI 82.

These names reproduce the city’s tabular street-section labels. Where the database describes a junction as simply “Littlefield Road,” residents should verify the precise map segment with Public Works before using the figure to describe a particular driveway or pothole.

Why one street can have such different scores

A pavement-condition index is assigned to a segment, not necessarily to an entire road. Differences can reflect previous surface condition, maintenance, traffic and age of pavement. The city database provides the scores and dates but does not prove a particular reason for any individual Littlefield Road rating.

All five entries record the same July 2018 slurry seal treatment, yet the historical ratings vary by 20 points. A slurry seal is a surface preservation treatment; it should not be confused with a full-depth reconstruction.

How does this relate to Aguajito Oaks’ streetlight proposal?

Aguajito Oaks residents have separately proposed a new streetlight near the Littlefield Road hairpin under the 2026 Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program. That application is a lighting and visibility proposal, not a pavement contract. The city’s 2025 street condition scores do not establish that the streetlight was approved or built, nor does the streetlight request establish that resurfacing is planned.

Questions worth asking Monterey Public Works include whether the five segment ratings were updated in 2026, whether the city has a newer inspection or pothole log, and whether any Littlefield Road pavement work appears in its next capital maintenance schedule.

Editorial review: October 29, 2026. California58 independently extracted the five Littlefield Road entries from the published street register. The 2018 dates concern the last maintenance listed in January 2025, not an assertion that nothing changed afterward. Today’s pavement measurements and planned contracts were not independently verified.
