AGUAJITO OAKS / MONTEREY — October 29, 2026. A discussion at Monterey’s October 19 Measure P and S Oversight Committee highlighted a roadway-condition problem relevant to people who travel the Aguajito corridor. According to a public meeting summary, a committee member pointed to a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score of 14 on Aguajito and requested a future staff report about how the city plans to address unusually low-rated streets.

The reported figure applies to a road entry discussed at the meeting—not necessarily to every section of Aguajito Road, all streets in Aguajito Oaks, or the exact location of any particular driveway. The summary does not identify the endpoints of the segment rated 14. California58 has not obtained a segment-specific October 2026 engineering inspection identifying those endpoints.

How does a score of 14 compare with the city overall?

City staff and the committee discussed a citywide pavement-condition score of approximately 79, according to the October meeting account. The city uses PCI ratings to assess road surfaces; higher values represent better condition. A reported local score of 14 therefore merits attention, but the citywide figure is an overall average and cannot be used to predict the condition of a specific residential street.

During the same meeting, the committee also heard concerns about Antler Place, cited with a PCI of 18. Both examples were raised in the context of asking staff for a future update on low-rated roadway segments. The committee’s discussion does not demonstrate that bids, resurfacing dates or repair funds were approved for either location on October 19.

What about Littlefield Road in Aguajito Oaks?

Our separate Littlefield Road records analysis examined five specific street sections with earlier city database scores ranging from 71 to 91. Those recorded values are not in conflict with the newly discussed Aguajito score: the roads and segments are different, and their records were compiled at different times.

Our other local report concerns a proposed streetlight at the Littlefield Road hairpin. That is a lighting project, not a pavement rehabilitation contract.

What information is still needed?

Residents can ask Monterey Public Works to identify the exact Aguajito segment scored 14, provide the latest underlying pavement survey and say whether the location is scheduled for any preservation, rehabilitation or reconstruction. That follow-up matters because an engineering rating in a committee discussion is not itself a construction order.

At the October 19 meeting, committee members received reports on street rehabilitation and reconstruction work for 2026, along with periodic financial reports. The requested further analysis was a matter for staff follow-up, not a newly announced road closure.

California58 original neighborhood follow-up, October 29, 2026. The 14-point rating is attributed to a secondary meeting summary; the exact block and subsequent work plan have not been independently confirmed against a location-specific city engineering table.
